Esh-kn-am CRM Services gathers information on a community's traditional and cultural uses, practices and protocols through individual interviews, community group sessions, literature review, and archaeology studies. Interviews include Elders and knowledgeable community members, who have traditional and cultural knowledge.
The information is prepared for transformation into GIS technology. After analyzing and interpreting the information, it is then put into a format that can be used for land management planning, educational purposes and negotiations.
Nlaka'pamux communities utilize the food, forage, fuel, fibre, water, medicines and building materials provided by our local ecosystems. Our services assist communities by providing tools to help with co-management and co-stewardship of the resources.
Co-management can be defined as collaborative arrangements in which First Nations' communities, local and senior governments and other local resource users share responsibility for managing natural resources.
Co-management improves the livelihoods of First Nations' peoples while protecting or enhancing the natural resource base they rely on.
Our approach to co-stewardship is one that moves beyond the earlier narrow focus on productivity (such as forestry) to include socioeconomic, archaeological and policy considerations.
Many professionals in the land-use planning and development field are now aware that good functional design and management does not necessarily lead to good planning. Good planning requires the engagement of First Nations' communities in ways that develop their sense of co-stewardship and co-management in the planning process.
We draw on more than a decade of capacity building and centuries worth of research material across our territory.
Our key message to resource managers, policy makers, researchers and leadership is that our proposed solutions will be effective and lasting especially if driven by the knowledge, actions and teachings of Nlaka'pamux First Nations.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) opens up new possibilities for understanding and analyzing data by providing a visual tool to see your data graphically.
We use leading-edge technology to manage location information. By transforming various layers of land management information into maps, First Nations' communities can better organize and visualize their data for improved communications and enhanced decision making.
We have numerous years experience geo-coding and mapping data for out clients' needs.
